MAN BEATS ABUSER OF CHILD TO DEATH
WITH BARE HANDS
Saturday, June 9, 2012, in Lavaca County
Victoria, Texas a man beat another man to death using his bare hands. Sounds
barbaric, right? What if I told you that he beat the man to death for sexually
abusing his four year old daughter? Would that change your thoughts on his
actions? Would that justify his actions or change what his punishment should
be? I am sure it would, because it definitely made a difference to me. Let us
dig deeper into this story.
According to authorities, there was
a family party or get together going on at the time of the incident. All of the
family members were outside with the horses, leaving the child in the house
unsupervised. The now deceased attacker, who was at the gathering due to his
knowledge and skill of horse grooming, saw an opportunity and took it. From
what the sheriff told the media, the father entered the house and found the man
in the act of sexually abusing his daughter. He then struck the man on the head
over and over. When authorities arrived, the man was pronounced dead on the
spot. Now if that is not an ass whooping then I do not know what one is.
After police arrived and spoke with
the family, it is said in the article I read that the father seemed to be full
of remorse also stating that he did not know his actions would cause the death
of the attacker. The sheriff said that according to law he acted in self-defense,
stating that he has the right to defend his daughter. Reports say that the four
year old victim seemed to be fine after the incidents took place. As far as the
attacker goes, there has not been any criminal history found in his record.
My questions to you,
the class, is what do you think should happen to the man? I am sure that almost
anyone, with loved ones, in the class would agree with the father’s actions. But,
do our thoughts correlate with the law? I would like to know your thoughts and
opinions. Looking at this from both
sides of the spectrum I think there could be a possible argument for second
degree murder. Though, the man did state that he did not know he would kill the
man, he still killed a man. Yes, self-defense can be used as a reason for his
actions. But, as criminal justice majors, we know that in self-defense we are
supposed to use only enough force to stop the harm being done. I think that if
charges are pressed, that would be a main focus by the prosecution. Personally,
I would have done the same except I would not be remorseful. I think the
attacker deserved it, without a doubt. I am interested on how you think this
will turn out. Will he be indicted? Or do you all think that he will be let
free? Discuss.
