Jail Break

Two murder suspects, Quincy Vernard Stewart, 36, and Cortez Rashod Hooper, 23,  escaped from Arkansas jail Monday May 28th., 2012. They were captured by police Thursday night, May 31st, 2012, in Texarkana, Arkansas, at a vacant home 2 miles from the jail after a failed attempt to find them with k-9 dogs previously. In their possession was a hand gun that potentially put them in even more trouble.

Charlene Stewart, 55, Quincy Stewart’s Mother, was arrested earlier in that week for accusations of helping her son escape by giving him up to four hacksaw blades. This was allegedly done on May 20, 2012, when Stewart had a court date. Charlene Stewart allegedly gave them to her son, as well as small amounts of marijuana and a cellphone, when he was leaving court. He then allegedly placed the items in an envelope containing his court documents that jail officials did not have the authority to search when he returned back to the jail. This job took real patience, skill and time. Maybe the inmates get too much down time. If the guards were doing their job by walking around, and or giving them more time outside of their cells they probably could have caught this. Then again, the two inmates did not think this all the way through. Since they escaped from jail, the judge will indefinitely send them to a maximum prison. Maybe even a super max prison. They pretty much took any chances for appeals and parole in the future and through it down the drain.

`           This goes back to the lecture from this week when we talked about jail inmates communicating on different types of illegal activities they can get into. These two men actually strategically planned this, up until they were free. They were faced with many obstacles. The window was approximately 1 by 3.5, they had to jump a 10 ft. barbed wire fence, as well as get 2 miles away from the jail without being caught. They also through their sent off so the k-9 dogs could not even catch up with them. Like I said, smart, yet really dumb for being that close to the jail. The fact that his mother helped me really intrigued me. We hear all the time how parents want to do so much for their children to help them get out of trouble, but did she really think she was going to get away with it? Or, did someone else pass it to him while he was at court? This is probably what will be argued in court since no one actually seen her hand it to her, they just assumed. Either way, they both will have this on to their murder and possesion charges. Stewart will have to live with the fact that his mom very well may be in a prison cell of her own. I do not know about him, but what I do know is I would not want to drag my mom in any of my troubles in a negative way.
